Indonesia coral reef partially restored in extensive project

Round 40,000 sq m of coral reef has been restored as a part of a collaboration between native teams, conservation organisation The Nature Conservancy and personal firm, Sheba.

It is a part of a plan to revive 185,000 sq m of the world’s coral reefs by 2029. One partially restored reef off the coast of Indonesia has since seen an increase in coral cowl from 5% to as much as 55%.

The BBC’s David Shukman speaks to marine scientists in regards to the venture and whether or not efforts like this will defend reefs from the continued risk of local weather change.
